Welcome
Welcome to the Playtest Draft rules of the Maiden-Heretic TTRPG. This game accompanies my growing webnovel, Maiden-Heretic of Laclathan (https://canonicity.org/works/TMHOL). More broadly, this game allows players to form parties of many species from throughout Project Canonicity, and to encounter beings, conflicts, tools, and wonders from it. All of these elements are hopefully infused with Canonicity's own unique logic.
Gamewise, it's a fairly traditional TTRPG using a d20-based system. The core mechanic is heavily influenced by Target 20, a mathematical compression of early editions of what we're stupidly compelled to call by an epithet like "the world's most well-known fantasy RPG". Despite being compressed from numerous tables down to a single mechanic, all the variation of the original system is preserved.
To this we add fractal hexmap exploration with persistent space and surface excursions. Template-based orbital mechanics and a simple way to organize surface maps based on hex facings add possibilities with minimal bookeeping. Scales from palm-sized to kilometers across are handled by orders of magnitude. In short, a decent basic weapon does around 1d8 damage whether a human or combat starship's firing, but hits between scales involve adding or taking away zeroes.
This is a very early draft based on a lot of cobbled-together notes across some years of experimentation. It can and will change drastically. At some point I may begin hosting games outside of my apartment, but all in good time.
